MBSR Course Description

Course Description:

8 Week Course:

The MBSR course is presented over an 8 week period, one session per week with each session lasting 2.5 hours. The participants are introduced to the idea of mindfulness through discussions everyday aspects of living and practicing different techniques for developing mindfulness. Each week has a specific theme with exercises designed to reinforce the concept(s) being presented. The participant is expected to commit to doing at least 45 minutes of home practice 6 days a week for the duration of the course. There are also some simple written homework exercises for some of the themes as well. The participants will have the opportunity in each session to discuss their experience with the home practice and ask any related questions that may arise.

There will be a “Day of Mindfulness” between week 6 and week 7 of the course. This day provides an opportunity for the participants to explore what they have learned up to this point in the course and to experience an extended period of mindfulness exercises. The participants are asked to bring their own lunch and eat with the group (going out to buy lunch is strongly discouraged). The group will spend the entire day (including lunch) in silence. You will be asked to arrange your schedule so that you will not have to commuicate with anyone for the duration of the day of mindfulness.

* Note that the date for the Day of Mindfulness may be changed (if absolutely necessary) by mutual agreement of the participants.
