Practical Recovery through Awareness

Wednesday evenings – 13.04  to  04.05, 2016

A series of workshops to explore four important areas for those on a recovery path. Recovery is usually associated with addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc. However, these four areas are also encountered when learning how to deal with codependency, over-achieving, over-working, early childhood difficulties and so on. The long term goal is to begin to learn how to respond rather than react to life circumstances.

Each evening will focus on a single theme with presentation of concepts, practical suggestions and exercises (in class and at home) to help develop skills in using these suggestions. Though the themes are interrelated, each workshop is independent. Attend one or all four as you suits your needs.

Daily Practice – April 13

Having trouble getting started with a daily practice? Is there a ‘right’ way to meditate? How long should my practice be? Morning or evening? If you have questions like these this workshop will provide some answers.

Mindful Relief Management – April 20

Do you find yourself sometimes acting out even though you are ‘in recovery’ ? Have you traded one unhealthy behavior for a new (or old) one? What kind of ‘relief’ do you get from these behaviors? With awareness, you can choose other ways to get ‘relief’ that are effective yet not unhealthy.

Decision Making – April 27  

Do you find decisions difficult to make? Are your choices interrupted or interfered from within before you can take action? Do short term goals override the long term view in making choices? This workshop will provide ways to better understand how to make healthier decisions.

Relationships and Decision Making – May 4

Are your love and work relationships difficult to navigate ? Do you chose people that may not be the best for you? Do you find yourself in the same relationship dynamic time after time, even though you have changed partners or jobs? Through asking yourself some simple questions and listening to your intuition, you can experience satisfaction more than frustration.
